It was a pleasant evening for our May meeting when we sat at tables ready for the Social Evening, but first we heard the usual business. Mark Hendy, the photographer who had taken pictures during our 100th Birthday Supper in February had run the London Marathon and had raised nearly £60 from our members which went towards the total of over £4,000 he had raised for the Stroke Association. A photograph of our Committee in their 1920s costumes appeared in the May edition of the GFWI Newsletter and they will be wearing those again later in the year when we host the Group Party in August. Members had enjoyed their theatre trip to see That’ll be the Day” and are looking forward to more theatre visits. We heard that there will be a Quedgeley Show in August and our WI will be running a stall and perhaps some members may even enter the competitions.

May for the WIs means Resolutions when members choose and vote on important issues on which they would like the National Federation of Women’s Institutes to campaign. This year it was “Bystanders can be life savers” and the vote was unanimous. This was followed by the Social Evening when we enjoyed the usual tasty nibbles and drinks along with a quiz. In June we will be hearing from Sue Dove with her talk on the Life and Times of an Adult Tutor and anyone who would like to come along, either as a visitor or new member will be made very welcome
